The competition Victoria was set up by in TSU Institute of Classical, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies in 2008 and is supported by the administration of the Institute. The author of the idea is Victoria Jugheli, a TSU academic. Initially the competition aimed at the promotion of Latin among students and therefore, in the first years, 2008 and 2009, it only tested the knowledge of Latin. However, from 2010 students can compete in both classical languages, Latin and Greek.  Victoria is held annually, on July 22 and is open to school pupils as well as to university students of classical studies and the humanities. Hence, the participants are given tasks of varying levels of difficulty. The participants’ papers are anonymous and are checked by TSU academics.
